Ben Herrmann (they/he)

Pastor for Formation & Outreach

Ben Herrmann serves as the Pastor for Formation and Outreach at FBCJP. Ben completed their Master of Divinity at Boston University School of Theology, where he focused his work on interfaith collaboration and queer theology. Their Master's thesis is an exploration of the story of Jesus' life in parallel to journeys of self-discovery and transformation experienced by transgender individuals.

Ben completed their Contextual Education at Common Street Spiritual Center in Natick Massachusetts in 2021, where he prepared and taught a summer curriculum primarily aimed toward people harmed by Christianity. In it, students engaged in the practice of deconstructing the Christian faith in tandem with understanding the Church's large-scale historical harms.

Prior to his call to First Baptist, Ben obtained a Bachelor of Music from Umass Lowell and taught music for 7 years. While they are no longer active in their musical profession, their love of music, children, and education often come in handy as he plans worship, children's programming, and Bible study each week.

When he is not ministering to the community of Jamaica Plain, Ben finds restfulness in the artistic endeavors of writing poetry, creating stained glass art, and practicing piano.
