Children & Youth

Kids and Families, Welcome!

A story in Matthew 19 illustrates our ministry with children and youth at First Baptist Jamaica Plain. In a busy crowd, as children push towards Jesus and even his followers seek to keep them back, Jesus calls out: “Let the children come to me!”  Kids are welcome here!

In Sunday School and the Children’s Circle in Sunday worship, in Wednesday night Music & Mission and Youth Group, with Youth Outings, our Youth Open Mic and other Special Events for kids of all ages, our children and youth programs nurture the spirit, build confidence, and promote creativity in self-expression.  They are places where kids journey together on new paths that lead to faith, courage, and hope.

Sunday School   Sundays, 9:30-10:45am

Sunday School is a time of learning where children connect with each other and, guided by caring adults, dig deep into God’s word.  Using art, drama, and music, kids connect the stories of our faith with the ways God speaks to us today.
Our Sunday School has three sections, one for  toddlers, one for children K-5 and another for youth.  The toddlers and elementary age children are using a curriculum of Bible stories from Spark called Activate Faith.  The youth will be engaged with re:form, a witty and wise study that asks the questions they too are asking.

First Fridays Youth Open Mic      Every First Friday, 7-9pm

Every First Friday of the month we open our doors and set the stage for youth to share their talents  and perspectives in a supportive and laid-back environment.  The open mic is geared towards youth, and features youth groups and artists who speak to themes of youth empowerment, social justice, and faith.  But parents and people of all ages are welcome as well to come and support the youth.

All youth rappers, poets, actors, comedians, musicians, dancers, and other artists are welcome! Contact us to reserve a spot or just show up and let us know what you want to do!
We are a Christian community of many cultures, one faith!
